#we’reinthistogether became a way to map human culture during Covid-19, calming my fears and insecurities in the process. Interested in the way artworks hold ideas, inspired by a work I’d seen in art history by English artist Gillian Wearing “Signs that Say What You Want Them To Say and Not Signs that Say What Someone Else Wants You To Say”, I too, decided to investigate Adelaide’s real feelings in our urban environment, by placing myself precariously in the public domain, asking questions, exchanging thoughts, listening, and recording these findings digitally. #we’reinthistogether co-creatively shared the burden of the Covid 19 pandemic.
I discovered reassurance and confidence in our commonalities, strength in each other and surprisingly an enlivened community spirit. #we’reinthistogether became a journal responding to our lived experiences. It was a process of gradually building a collection of information en-masse.
#we’reinthistogether stretched me as an artist to get out of my comfort zone and interact more with the public to find the real conversations waiting to be told.
#we’reinthistogether was my way of making art for the now, it was a documentation of current events, a moment in time to reflect upon, and connect us to the future!
